Lanesborough Community Choice Power Supply Program
As part of the Lanesborough Community Choice Power Supply Program, the Town has selected Dominion Retail, Inc. as its competitive power supplier for the Town’s electricity consumers. The rate the Town was able to negotiate is currently 9.4% lower than WMECo's Basic Service Rate. The new rate will begin as of the February 2012 meter reads.
The Lanesborough Community Choice Power Supply Program is a Municipal Aggregation. It gives the Town of Lanesborough choice and control over the source of their electricity and stabilizes electricity bills in the future by using the bulk buying power of all of its ratepayers.
Colonial Power Group worked with the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources (DOER) and the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) to create a plan that is beneficial to ALL customer classes.
The purpose of Community Choice Power Supply Programs is to represent consumer interests in competitive markets for electricity. It seeks to aggregate consumers in cities and towns to negotiate the best rates for the supply of electricity and to advance consumer protection for the residents and businesses of the community. Any individual has the opportunity to opt-out of the Program at any time and choose any electric supplier they wish.
How to Opt-Out
Opting out of the Community Choice Power Supply Program is easy.
During the initial 30 day opt-out period, you may fill out the online Opt-Out Form or simply sign and return the postage paid reply card that you receive in the mailing from your local government that describes the program.
At any time after the initial opt-out notice, if you want to be placed on WMECo’s Basic Service, you may fill out the online Opt-Out Form, or you may call Dominion Retail at 1-877-739-3669 and ask to cancel your account, or call WMECo at 1-877-659-6326, and ask to be placed on WMECo’s Basic Service with no penalty charge.
Newly eligible consumers (for example, those who have moved into the community recently) will be notified by direct mail after turning on electric service with their local distributor. The mailing will detail all aspects of the Program and will contain instructions for opting out of the Community Choice Power Supply Program, should you choose to do so.
